► Objectives 2008-9

Mission:
Oxford Brookes Students’ Union exists to provide representation, support and inspiration for all its members throughout their student experience.

Values:

Union Objectives for 2008/9:

  • Objective 1

Implement recommendations of the Charity Business review of financial procedures and practice to include management accounts, budgets and reserves policy.

  • Objective 2

Develop a diversity policy with targets set in key areas to measure how inclusive we are as an organisation in relation to the student demographic at Oxford Brookes University.

  • Objective 3

Show an improvement in Union performance leading to an 80% overall satisfaction rating from students in the 2009 survey and work towards at least one externally accredited award in each area of Membership Services (e.g. IiV), Commercial Services (e.g. Sound impact) and Support Services (e.g. IiP) and achieve at least one Union-wide award by the end of 2008.

  • Objective 4

Achieve the Commitment of the University to the Provision of a Flexible Social Space Controlled by Students.

  • Objective 5

Increase Students’ Awareness and Understanding of the Students’ Union, its Roles and Services.

Membership Services Objectives:

  1. Present the findings of the seriously big student survey to the membership and ensure that they are used to inform decision-making to be ratified a referendum (Objective 3)
     
  2. Produce an annual report to showcase the Union’s key achievements of the year to our major stakeholders and other interested parties (Objective 5)
     
  3. Deliver the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative project to ensure that the project meets its objectives and achieves an Award in 2008 (Objective 3)
     
  4. Implement the action plan to prepare for new Investors in volunteers standard to be applied for in 2009 (Objective 3)
     
  5. Work with Admin and Personnel Manager to develop Diversity policy, setting targets and monitoring (Objective 2)
     
  6. Ensure that Investors in People actions are implemented within area of responsibility (Objective 3)

Support Services Objectives:

  1. Work with GM and Charity Business to support the implementation of the review of financial procedures and practice to include management accounts, budgets and reserves policy. (Objective 1)
     
  2. Lead the Union to a successful outcome for IIP assessment (Objective 3)
     
  3. Liaise with Membership Services Manager to develop an Equality & Diversity policy and action plan including targets and timescales (Objective 2)
     
  4. Ensure that ‘paperless finance office’ project is included in Sound Impact Award application. work (Objective 3)
     
  5. Ensure that Investors in People actions are implemented within area of responsibility (Objective 3)

Commercial Services Objectives:

  1. Create a business plan to achieve the Commitment of the University to the Provision of a Flexible Social Space Controlled by Students (Objective 4)
     
  2. Improve financial performance in bars and ents, to include review of licensing by end of year (Objective 1)
     
  3. 3. Develop effective marketing and promotions for Commercial Services (Objective 5)
     
  4. Improve staff performance, customer service standards, and customer satisfaction in all CS areas. (Objective 3)
     
  5. Ensure that Investors in People actions are implemented within area of responsibility (Objective 3)
